Matt Dunne (b. 1989, Melbourne) is an artist whose work explores Australia’s environment as a product of colonial legacy. Using photography and research as a basis, he develops publications, installations and education programs that engage wide-ranging and diverse audiences to deepen their connection to the world around them.
Trained as a teacher, Matt currently works in sustainability while also producing art work and owning/operatings Tall Poppy Press - a publishing imprint dedicated to showcasing Australian artists. He has also written about photography widely, reviewing many photobooks and producing critical texts for exhibitions and galleries.
Most weeks he writes a newsletter that is a fairly whimsical, somewhat philisophical diary, if you like you can read the archives or subscribe here.
In 2023, Matt was diagnosed with Autism and is still working out what that means. He’s lived in rural Australia, the UK and the Amazon, makes one lasagne a year for people he loves and reads about 70 books a year.
